SHEATHING


How To Install Sheathing Without A Drop

 

To install the starter row of exterior sheathing so that it is flush or even with the bottom of the mudsill, having no drop over the top of the foundation wall, use the Dodge Hanger Corner® ‘0’ (DHC0) along with the Dodge Hanger Bottom® (DHB).
Select the DHC0 and the DHB with a saddle width that matches the thickness of the sheathing material to be installed.


 

  1. You will need one DHC0 for each outside corner.
  2. Bend the top tab of the DHC0 over and place on mudsill at each corner. If mudsill is larger than 1.5”, do not bend the top tab over, but attach directly to the side of the mudsill.
  3. Lightly hammer the stab tab on the DHC0 to help hold it in place on the mudsill.
  4. Fasten the DHC0 to the mudsill with Approved Fasteners*.5. Starting with a corner, it is recommended you attach the DHB on a 1’ by 3’ pattern around the mud sill plate, after establishing the layout of the product being used. You should place a DHB no more than 6” in from each joint/seam.6. For vertically installed sheathing (4’ x 8’, 9’, 10’, 12’) it is recommended you use (2) DHB’s per sheet of sheathing material.
  5. For horizontally installed wall sheathing (8’ x 4’) it is recommended you use (3) DHB’s per sheet (i.e., (1) hanger each at 6”, 4’, 7’6”). (2) DHB’s should be placed no more than 6” inside either end of the sheet, with (1) DHB in the center of the sheet.
  6. Insert the bottom tab of the DHB between the mudsill and the top of the foundation wall.
  7. Lightly hammer the stab tab of the DHB to hold the DHB in place against the mudsill.
  8. Secure with Approved Fasteners
  9. Place sheathing on the hangers and nail-off. (Check your local building code.)

 

 


How To Install Sheathing With A Drop

 

 

 

Use the Dodge Hanger Corner® 1.5 (DHC15) along with the Dodge Hanger Top Leveler®(DHTL15) or Dodge Hanger Rear® (DHR) to install the starter row of the sheathing with a drop below the mudsill.

Select the DHC15 and the DHTL with saddle widths that fit the thickness of the sheathing material to be installed.


 

  1. You will need a DHC15 for each outside corner.
  2. Bend the top tab of the DHC15 over and place on the mudsill at each corner. If mudsill is larger than 1.5”, do not bend the top tab over, but attach directly to the side of the mudsill.
  3. Lightly hammer the stab tab on the DHC15 to help hold it on the mudsill.
  4. Fasten to the mudsill with Approved Fasteners*.
  5. Using the DHC15along with theDHTL , your sheathing will hang approximately 1” below the foundation.
  6. Once your DHC15’s are installed, it is recommended you attach theDHTLis on a 1’ by 3’ pattern around the mud sill plate, after establishing the layout of the sheathing to be installed. You should place aDHTL no more than 6” in from each joint/seam.
  7. For vertically installedsheathing (4’ x 8’, 9’, 10’, 12’) it is recommended you use (2) DHTL’s per sheet.
  8. For horizontally installedwall sheathing (8’ x 4’) it is recommended you use(3) DHTL’s per sheet (i.e., (1) hanger each at 6”, 4’, 7’6”)
  9. Bend the top tab of the DHTL over, forming a 90° angle, and set it on the top of the mudsill.
  10. Lightly hammer the stab tab on the DHTL into the mudsill.
  11. Attach with Approved Fasteners*.
  12. The saddle of the DHTL will hang approximately 1” below the mudsill, allowing the sheathing to drop as it rests on the hanger.

 

🚫 If you can’t access the top of the mudsill, use the DHR.

 

  1. Insert the rear tab of the DHR between the mudsill and the top of the foundation wall.
  2. Lightly hammer the stab tab of the DHR to hold it in place against the mudsill.
  3. Secure with Approved Fastener*
  4. Place sheathing on the hangers and nail-off. (Check your local building code.)

 

 

 

SIDING

 

How To Install Lap Siding

 

 

The Dodge Hanger Bottom® (DHB) is part of a no drop system that is designed to install the starter row of the siding even or flush with the bottom of the sheathing.

We recommend you use the DHB to hang your siding if you have already dropped your sheathing below the mudsill with a DHTL or a DHR.



NO DROP SYSTEM®


  1. Select the DHB with a saddle width that matches the thickness of the siding material to be installed.|

  2. Use (2) DHBs per piece of siding.  Add as needed for longer pieces.

  3. Place a DHB on the sheathing, where it will be no more than 6” from either end of the siding to be hung.

  4. Lightly hammer the quick-mount stab tab on the DHB into the sheathing to hold it in place.

  5. Install the DHB’s on the sheathing using Approved Fasteners.


  6. Place your siding on the DHB’s to hold the starter row of siding. (Check your local building code.)

 


DROP SYSTEM®

 

The Dodge Hanger Rear® (DHR) is part of a drop system that is designed to install the starter row of siding below the bottom edge of the sheathing to create a barrier at the mudsill.

Use the DHR to hang your siding if you installed your sheathing even or flush with the top of the foundation wall using the DHC0 and DHBno drop system.



  1. Select the DHR with a saddle width that most closely fits the thickness of the siding material to be installed.


  2. Place a DHR on the sheathing where it is no more than 6” from either end of the siding to be hung. And add as item #2:  Use (2) DHR’s per piece of siding.  Add hangers as needed for longer pieces.


  3. Lightly hammer the quick-mount stab tab on the DHR into the sheathing to help hold the hanger in place.


  4. Install the DHR on the sheathing using Approved Fasteners*.


  5. Place your siding on the DHR’s to hold the starter row of sidin (*Check your local building code.)



OUT OF LEVEL STRUCTURES
 

The Dodge Hanger Top Leveler® is versatile and can be used to install the starter row of siding on the structure, even if the sheathing is out of level.
Select the DHTL with a saddle width that most closely fits the thickness of the siding material to be installed.



  1. Find and mark level points on the wall sheathing using a transit or level, allowing for either a no drop or drop installation of the siding to the sheathing.

  2. Snap a chalk line between the level marks.

  3. Use (2) DHTL’s on 5’ material or less; for material over 5’, use(3) DHTL’s.

  4. Do not bend the top tab of theDHTLover; leave straight. Place the (2) outside corners of theDHTL on the chalk line, using the alignment site for accuracy. Place one in the center if needed.

  5. Lightly hammer the quick-mount stab tab on theDHTL into the sheathing to hold it in place.

  6. Install theDTHL’s on the sheathing using Approved Fasteners*

  7. Set your siding on te DHTL’s to hold the starter row of siding. (Check your local building code)



 

ROOFING

How To Install Sheathing On The Roof

 



FASCIA SYSTEM

 

Dodge Hanger Rear® (DHR) allows you to deck the roof with the proper space created for the installation of ¾” to 1 ¼” thick fascia.


  1. Select the DHR with a saddle width to match the thickness of the decking to be installed.

  2. Place the DHR directly on the end of the rafter tail or truss with the rear support tab positioned under the tail end.

  3. Lightly hammer the quick-mount stab tab to hold the DHR in place.

  4. Secure the DHR to the rafter using Approved Fasteners*

  5. Install a DHR on each tail end.

  6. Place the roof decking material in the saddle of the DHR’s to lock it into place for a no movement nail-off.

  7. Install fascia up under hanger.


The Dodge Hanger Top Leveler® (DHTL) can be used when installing fascia thicker than 1 ¼”.

 

 

  1. Select the DHTL with a saddle width to match the thickness of the sheathing to be installed.

  2. Establish and mark a starting point above the roof edge, at each end of the roof, that will allow for the proper thickness of the fascia to be installed.

  3. Snap a chalk line between the two points.

  4.  Place the (2) outside corners of the DHTL on the chalk line, using the alignment site for accuracy.

  5. Lightly hammer the quick mount stab tab on the DHTL to mount it to the roof.

  6. Complete DHTL installation using Approved Fasteners*.

  7. Install a DHTL on each rafter end.

  8. Place decking materials on the DHTL’s to lock material into place for a no movement nail-off.

  9. Install fascia up under hanger. (*Check your local building code.)

NO FASCIA SYSTEM

 

Dodge Hanger Bottom® (DHB) is used to install the starter row of roof decking when no fascia is to be installed on the building.
Select the DHB with a saddle width to match the thickness of the decking to be installed.
  1. Place the DHB directly on the end of the rafter tail or truss with the bottom support tab positioned under the tail end.

  2. Lightly hammer the quick-mount stab tab to hold the DHB in place.

  3. Secure the DHB to the rafter using Approved Fasteners*.

  4. Install a DHB on each tail end.

  5. Place the roof decking material in the saddle of the DHB’s to lock it into place for a no movement nail-off.

  6. Gutters can be installed directly to the rafter tail ends using this method. (*Check your local building code.)
